Are you tired of stumbling over shoes or “losing” pieces of clothing in an overcrowded space? Do you dream of having an organized closet where everything has a designated place? If so, it’s time to consider building your perfectly organized closet — one that will reflect your sense of style and function that makes getting dressed each day a joy. From determining your needs to choosing the accessories that will work best for you, each step is important in creating a closet that will be your haven of organization.

Step 1 – Determine Your Needs

The first step in creating your dream closet is to identify your needs. What do you need to store? Do you have a large shoe collection, piles of yoga pants, or many hang-up items that take up a lot of room? Think about your daily life and which closet features would make it better. For instance, would you like to incorporate a tilt-out hamper inside your closet or a sliding belt rack to organize accessories? Let our designers know. They’ll listen to your wants and needs so they can design a closet specifically to fit your space and meet your needs.

Step 2 – Budget for your project

Setting a budget before you begin your project will guide your decisions and help you stay within any financial constraints. Remember that building a dream closet doesn’t have to break the bank, especially since Closets by Design has beautiful collections designed to fit all budgets. Plus, our no-interest financing plan lets you know upfront what your total cost will be and exactly how much you’ll owe each month. That means you don’t have to pay for everything at one time and you can begin enjoying your closet while you make affordable monthly payments.

Step 3 – Decide Which Layout Is Best for You

What kind of closet do you want to transform? Is it a reach-in or walk-in closet? The vertical space in a reach-in closet can be maximized to utilize every available inch of storage. Walk-in closets can be customized to include room for dressing or to incorporate an island with drawers. No matter how much space you have, our designers will work their magic to transform it into a dream closet!

Step 4 – Choose Your Favorite Look

The materials you choose for your closet will impact the overall look of the closet.  We have a wide variety of color options to match with any décor in your home. There are many upgrade options available such as crown molding and decorative door fronts to help you enhance the look of your closet.  You get to select the options you like to fit within your budget. With so many features to choose from, you’ll have no trouble finding a color and style to suit your personality.

Step 5 – Pick Your Accessories

For most people, picking out the perfect accessories is the fun part of the closet design process. Think of it as jewelry for your closet! Closets by Design offers a wide selection of stylish and functional drawer pulls and handles. Maybe you’ll want chrome wire baskets on slides instead of traditional drawers. We have hidden accessories that you only pull out when you need them such as a full-length mirror or an ironing board. There are many practical accessories such as racks for ties, belts, scarfs and more. And be sure to ask your Designer to demonstrate the valet rod – once you see it, you’ll have to have one..

Step 6 – Get Started Today

If you’re ready to build a fabulous closet, schedule a free in-home consultation with Closets by Design today. For more than 40 years, we’ve provided top-notch products, innovative designs, and outstanding customer service at affordable prices. We can help you turn your dream closet into a reality.

]]>
Every homeowner dreams of having that perfect space that’s both welcoming for guests and functional for everyday use; an effortless transition from a cozy guest room to a productive home office or a relaxing personal retreat. With Closets by Design, this dream can become a reality. Here’s how to craft that ideal multi-functional room.

The Magic of a Wall Bed

One of the biggest challenges in creating a dual-purpose room is ensuring there’s enough space for both guests and non-guest function. Enter the wall bed by Closets by Design. This innovative piece of furniture allows you to have a comfortable bed for your guests that can easily be tucked away when not in use. With the bed folded up, the room instantly transforms, giving you ample space for a home office, craft room, or even a personal gym.

Optimizing Closet Space

A guest-friendly space isn’t just about where your guests will sleep; it’s also about where they’ll keep their belongings. A cluttered room with luggage and clothes strewn about can make your guests feel like they’re intruding. Closets by Design offers custom storage solutions that can be added to a wall bed to provide a space for guests to store their belongings.  And when the guests aren’t around? Use that optimized closet space for your own storage needs, be it office supplies, craft materials, or seasonal items.

Versatility is Key

The beauty of a multi-functional room lies in its versatility. Think of furniture that serves dual purposes. A desk can be added to a wall bed to provide a bedside table, or a place for a tv or laptop. A bookshelf can offer storage for office supplies or your guest’s personal items. The key is to choose pieces that are both stylish and functional, ensuring that the room looks cohesive no matter its current use.

Setting the Right Ambiance

Creating a welcoming ambiance is crucial. This means choosing the right lighting, color palette, and decor. Soft, warm lighting can make your guests feel at home, while task lighting can help you focus when you’re working. Neutral colors with pops of accent shades can make the room feel cozy yet vibrant. And don’t forget about the little touches — a vase of fresh flowers, a basket of toiletries for your guests, or a pinboard for your work notes can make all the difference.

Why Choose Closets by Design?

At Closets by Design, we understand the importance of having a space that caters to your diverse needs. Our expert designers work closely with you to understand your requirements and craft solutions that are both beautiful and functional. Our wall beds, custom storage solutions, and personalized design services ensure that you get a room that’s truly multi-functional, without compromising on style or comfort.

In today’s world, where space is at a premium, having a room that serves dual purposes is not just a luxury, it’s a necessity. With Closets by Design by your side, you can have that perfect guest-friendly space you will love using just as much as your guests will love staying in. Whether you’re hosting friends for the weekend or working on your next big project, your multi-functional room will be ready.

Are you one of the 76% of Americans who will complete a home improvement project this year?  If you’ve decided it’s time to tackle some projects around your house, you might be contemplating the best way to pay for your project.  One attractive option you should consider is a no-interest financing plan.  Closets by Design offers 12-month financing so customers can get the project they want done now, and pay for it over time.

Enjoy the Convenience of Financing

When you finance your home improvement project, you don’t have to wait on a bank to approve your loan, and you don’t have to worry about going over your credit card limit. Closets by Design offers a simple application process that can be initiated when you schedule your free in-home design consultation. This allows you to be pre-approved and know your budget amount before you even meet with your Designer, so when you do have your in-home consultation you can focus on what you’re really interested in — transforming your space.

Save Money with Financing

Every company that offers financing has different terms, and many offer low-interest or no-interest programs that can actually save you money. For example, if you charged your purchase to a credit card and paid it off over time, you’d end up paying a lot of interest at today’s high rates. However, with a no-interest financing program, you pay nothing more than the price of your home improvement provided you pay off the balance within the promotional period. It’s like paying cash, except you get to keep your money in the bank longer since you pay only a set amount each month. Your savings can continue growing while you enjoy your new home upgrades.

Additionally, once you are approved with Closets by Design franchising, you will only need to pay a 20% deposit to get your project going, compared to the 50% deposit you would pay with most home improvement projects.

Increase the Value of Your Home

Home Improvement projects can improve the value of your home, and that can be especially important if you know you’ll be selling it in the future. With financing, you can make needed improvements without draining your savings. Then, when you sell your house, not only can you recoup your investment, but you may even make a profit.

Finance with Closets by Design

For more than 40 years, Closets by Design has been helping people organize and enhance their living spaces. If your home improvement plans include adding a custom closet, making over your kitchen pantry or laundry room, creating the perfect home office or hobby room, organizing your garage, or installing a media center or wallbed, our experts are ready to work with you. They’ll measure your space and show you ideas and samples so you can choose the style that suits you best.

All of our products are custom-built and professionally installed to your specifications. Best of all, you’ll know upfront what the cost is, and with our financing, you’ll know exactly how much to budget for payments each month. Schedule your free in-home design consultation today!

Garage Flooring: Best Options for Your Home https://www.closetsbydesign.com/garage-flooring-options/ Mon, 10 Jul 2023 13:18:37 +0000 https://www.closetsbydesign.com/?p=98765 The garage is no longer just a space to store the car. The garage is no longer just a space to store the car. Many families also utilize the area as a workout room, an area to tinker with hobbies, a man cave, or even a playroom for the kids. Because the garage has so many uses outside car storage, the flooring needs to be up to par for any task. The question is, which type of flooring is right for you?

Stamped Concrete Garage Floors

Every garage floor starts with a concrete slab. Stamped concrete is a process in which a design is “stamped” onto the existing floor to make the concrete appear to have a certain characteristic — whether it’s to mimic wood flooring, tiles, or a creative design. You’ve probably seen this around pools or patios, and the effect can be beautiful.

There are some drawbacks to this type of garage flooring. Stamped concrete is known to crack. To help keep its integrity, color, and pattern, the stamped concrete will need to be resealed every two to three years.

Epoxy Garage Floors

Epoxy floors mimic the look of terrazzo. They are a resin product that is applied to the concrete slab and come in a wide variety of colors and allow for many design and aesthetic options. These floors are very durable and are both chemical and stain resistant. Fluids such as oil, antifreeze, gasoline, and other caustic car chemicals can easily be wiped up without worry.

An epoxy floor installation can be tricky. Weather conditions must be ideal in order to get a great result. For example, if there is too much moisture in the air during installation. The final result will create bubbles in the floor and also cause it to age more quickly.

Roll Out Flooring

Roll-out flooring is a vinyl product. It is one of the most inexpensive ways to cover a garage floor. Just unroll it on your garage floor, cut off the excess, and you are done. Although easy to install, it isn’t easy to repair or replace damaged sections. It also doesn’t lend itself to the creation of a custom pattern. The seams are not watertight, so liquid could seep underneath, creating a potential mold and mildew issue.

Interlocking Floor Tiles

Another option is interlocking floor tiles. These are high-impact polypropylene polymer tiles that fit together like puzzle pieces. They are engineered to last and resist breaking and corrosion. These tiles come in a variety of colors that you can mix and match to suit your preference. You can choose a solid color pattern or have fun by putting down the colors of your favorite sports team, or matching colors to accent your favorite car. The pattern options and colors are plentiful.

As part of our garage organization makeovers, Closets by Design offers interlocking tiles as a design option. Our DesignFloor™ tile systems include Flextile, which is available in three patterns and is a solid surface that can be broom swept and washed easily. Traxtile has slits within the tile, which allows for debris to fall beneath the surface and out from under your feet. A quick blast from a leaf blower is all it takes to remove the debris. Both options are easy to install and durable. DesignFloor™ tile can withstand everyday spills and heavy weight. The tiles help prevent slips and falls while the patterns add a little something extra to your space. If you’re looking for both design and functionality, DesignFloor™ tiles are for you.  In the event a tile does get damaged, it’s a simple fix; just pop out the old tile and replace it with a new one.

Closets by Design installs thousands of custom made closets in homes every month, but this particular closet had a very special purpose.  Imagine a room fit for a princess complete with pink walls, fairy lights, a canopied play corner, and a custom made Closets by Design closet.  This dream bedroom is now a reality for two-year-old Ezra of Royal Palm Beach, Florida.

Ezra was recently diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and must undergo chemotherapy treatments. Precious Ezra has already been through more in her short life than many adults will ever experience and she is facing two more years of treatment in her future.  When Closets by Design owner Jennifer Johnson heard Ezra’s story, she immediately knew she wanted to help with the surprise makeover. She teamed up with the Florida chapter of Special Spaces, a national non-profit organization that helps create dream bedroom makeovers for children with cancer and donated the closet to the organization.

Jennifer and her team created a closet specifically for Ezra and her sister to share. They added extra drawers and adjustable shelves for the girls’ clothes and toys. Designers included a closet rod at a lower level that makes it easy for Ezra to reach her own clothes.

“As a business owner, I give back to my community in numerous ways,” said Johnson, “but projects like this are especially rewarding. The team members at Closets by Design are delighted when we can bring a little joy to children like Ezra.”

“I’m thrilled Closets by Design could participate in giving Ezra a magical space to come home to after her treatments and long hospital stays,” added Johnson. “We envisioned the room as a place of hope, where she can spend time away from the challenges of her illness — healing, recovering, and just being a kid.”

Special Spaces has a special place in Johnson’s heart. This is the second time her Closets by Design franchise has participated in a project with the non-profit to bring joy to a local child.  If you would like to learn more about Special Spaces and the wonderful work they do, please visit their website at www.specialspaces.org

When businesses were forced to close their offices in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, employees who could do their jobs remotely began working from home. Though most offices have now reopened, many people are still choosing to work from home. In fact, a Pew Research Center survey conducted earlier this year found that “six in 10 United States workers who say their jobs can mainly be done from home (59%) are working from home all or most of the time.” If you’re one of those people, you know how difficult it is to do your job efficiently when you don’t have a proper office set up. That’s where the experts from Closets by Design come in. We can help you create a productive home office that will meet all your needs.

Transform a Spare Room

Almost any spare room in your house can be turned into an office. Whether it’s a home gym you rarely use, the kids’ playroom that your now college-aged children no longer need, or the junk room that collects all the stuff you don’t have a place for, Closets by Design can transform the space into a stylish and functional home office. We offer an array of desks that can be tailored to your exact specifications. Add customized wall shelving and cabinets, and you’ll have the ultimate workspace. Some of our most popular features include lateral file drawers, adjustable keyboard trays, pull-out tower cabinets, adjustable shelving, and cabinets with deco doors. Because we offer so many possible combinations of features, you can choose the configuration that will help you work most effectively. Best of all, we have four distinct product collections available in several colors and at different price points. That way, you can select a style that suits your budget as well as your style.

Make Your Guestroom Multipurpose

If you don’t have a spare room to convert into an office, you can give your guestroom a makeover and turn it into a multifunctional space. It’s a simple process when you have assistance from one of our design pros and replace your existing guestroom bed with one of our fabulous wall beds. Commonly referred to as Murphy beds, wall beds come in single, double, or queen sizes and can be paired with a desk, shelves, and cabinets to create a multipurpose office and guestroom. When you have overnight company, they’ll have a beautiful and comfortable place to sleep. The rest of the time, the bed will be folded into the wall, leaving you with a spacious home office.

Upgrade Your Kitchen

When you’d rather not reconfigure any of your bedrooms, you can create a fully functional office space in your kitchen. With a custom desk and shelving from Closets by Design, even a small nook or corner can be turned into a workstation that will serve all of your home office needs. One of our professionals will measure your space and let you know all of the options available to you. Plus, our beautiful products are designed to complement your existing décor so they can be integrated into your kitchen seamlessly.

Clutter and Your Mental Health

Do you feel overwhelmed or depressed when your house is messy and disorganized? If so, you’re not alone. According to mental health experts, clutter can lead to higher stress levels, relationship issues, trouble focusing, and a diminished quality of life. So, putting forth the effort to clear clutter from your home could help you become happier and healthier. On the other hand, decluttering can be a daunting task, and if it feels too overwhelming, you might put it off indefinitely. Never fear! We’ve put together a few simple ideas to help you take control of your physical and mental space.

Take Care of the Kitchen

It’s said that the kitchen is the heart of the home. If your kitchen is about to burst from all the stuff crammed in it, that’s not a good sign for your heart — literally. Clutter and disorganization can increase the production of the stress hormone cortisol, leading to chronic stress, so make sure your kitchen is as clutter-free as it can be.

Take a good look around the room. Are small appliances crowding the countertops? Maybe cereal boxes are piled on the table, or bags of onions and potatoes are stashed on top of the refrigerator. Find a place in your pantry or cabinets to store all of these things. If you need additional storage space, let the professionals at Closets by Design put together the perfect custom pantry for your needs. Our adjustable shelves allow you to store appliances and cereal boxes of varying sizes, and features like bins, pull-out shelves, dividers, and drawers provide ample space for other dry ingredients, canned goods or fresh produce. You’ll love the way your kitchen feels when you have an organized pantry and can clear the clutter from your countertops!

Clean Your Desk

Whether you’re working from home, studying for an exam, or simply paying monthly bills, it’s important to have a clean workspace. As reported by the Mayo Clinic, “a cluttered environment can make your brain less effective at processing information — and more prone to frustration.” Having an organized desk can help you work more efficiently.

Begin cleaning your desk by sorting through any piled-up mail or papers. Throw out junk mail immediately and make files for the paperwork you need to keep. Stash office supplies (like pens, paper clips, and scissors) in decorative cups or jars. When you’re ready to take your home office to the next level of productivity, check out the stylish offerings on the Closets by Design website. Our custom desks, combined with cabinets and shelving, will transform your existing workspace into the ultimate home office.

Organize Your Closet

Have you ever gotten into an argument with your partner or roommate because one person is messier than the other or someone’s stuff is taking up too much room? If so, you know that clutter can cause relationship issues, sometimes serious ones. Perhaps more than any other space, the bedroom closet is frequently at the center of the conflict. But you don’t have to let a little clutter spoil an otherwise good relationship.

Begin work on your closet by getting rid of clothing the two of you don’t wear on a regular basis. Throw away, donate, or sell any items that are worn out, don’t fit, or you no longer need. Store clothes that are out of season in plastic bins under the bed or in another room. Use all available space as you begin to put clothes back in the closet. Better still — consult with the experts from Closets by Design. We can maximize every inch of space in your closet by adding adjustable shelving, slanted shoe shelves, a sliding belt rack, cubbies, jewelry drawers, or other features required for your specific needs. Whether you have a walk-in or reach-in closet, we’ll help you utilize its full potential.

Schedule Your Free In-Home Consultation

Since 1982, Closets by Design has been helping customers improve their living spaces by offering high-quality products and exceptional service at a great value. We can’t promise that our products will improve your mental health, but they can help you reduce clutter in your home. ]]>
Less is more — you’ve probably heard the expression numerous times. It refers to the concept that having a few essential things is often better than having too much stuff you don’t really need. If thoughts of Marie Kondo spring to mind, you may be surprised to learn that the quote and the idea it represents aren’t new but have their roots in ancient Greece. Keep reading to learn more about this timeless advice and how it can improve your life in the present day.

Ancient Greece

Chilon of Sparta was a poet and philosopher in the sixth century BC and is considered one of the seven sages of Greece. Many scholars believe that he coined the phrase “less is more” to represent the Spartan attitude toward life. Chilon’s view was that by saying less, a person gave more weight or emphasis to the few words spoken.

20th Century

Along with Frank Lloyd Wright and several others, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (commonly known as Mies) was one of the founders of modernist architecture. He was well known for repeating the expression “less is more,” and his application of the principle is obvious in the clarity and simplicity of his minimalist style. He loved free-flowing, multifunctional spaces that took advantage of their outdoor surroundings.

Modern Day

While Marie Kondo introduced a new generation to minimalism several years ago, the current stars of the movement are Joshua Fields Millburn and Ryan Nicodemus. Their 2021 documentary “The Minimalists: Less Is Now” was nominated for a Daytime Emmy and has been viewed by millions. In it, the two friends explore why people hold on to junk, explain how intentional living can transform lives, and suggest a 30-day declutter routine.

Creating a Less-Is-More Home

To create a minimalist home, you must be like Chilon and focus on the things that are important. For instance, if you’ve spent tons of time and money building your wardrobe, you don’t want to shove your favorite pieces into a closet crammed with items you never wear. After getting rid of the clothes and shoes you no longer want, you must decide how to arrange what’s left in a simple and efficient way. This is the perfect time to contact the organization experts at Closets by Design. Whether you have a walk-in or reach-in closet, our designers can make the most of your space by combining adjustable shelving, hanging bars, shoe racks, jewelry drawers, and more. Everything in your wardrobe will have a place, so you can easily locate and put away each item.

You might also choose to be like Mies and focus on creating a free-flowing multifunctional space by putting a wall bed in your guest room or home office. Closets by Design has a variety of wall beds in single, double, and queen sizes that can be paired with shelves, desks, cabinets, and more. Because the beds fold up into the wall when not in use, you can transform any room into a multipurpose space. Best of all, our products are fresh and modern with sleek lines and beautiful, functional design features.

Perhaps you’d prefer to emulate the Minimalists and begin living more intentionally by decluttering your kitchen and getting rid of all the junk and unused appliances that are taking up space. Again, Closets by Design can help you create a more pleasant kitchen environment with a custom pantry. With the right combination of drawers, shelving, cubbies, and other design elements, your pantry will provide easy access to the food and equipment you need to make preparing meals less stressful. Having an organized pantry also saves you time and money since you can quickly see which items you need. That way, you don’t run out of your favorite foods or buy duplicates.

Schedule Your Free In-Home Consultation

If you’re ready to simplify your life, Closets by Design offers stylish organization systems that enable you to maximize your home storage without detracting from the beauty of your interior. Contact us today to set up your free consultation and let us help you discover why less is more.

]]>
Cleaning your house is a constant chore, something you need to do before you can move on to the things you want to do. A good vacuum cleaner and the right cleaning products can help you make quick work of the job, but the best way to deal with dirt is not letting it in to begin with. That’s where mudrooms come in.

A mudroom is simply a designated space just inside a home’s entrance, where you can remove your coat and shoes and leave your umbrella and backpack in order to avoid tracking dirt inside your home. Here are some features good mudrooms have in common.

  • Plenty Of Storage

Consider a combination of cubbies, drawers, shelves, and baskets for storing shoes, sports equipment, rain gear, etc. You’ll need to decide if you want open cubbies and shelves where items are handy but may look messy or if you/d rather hide the clutter behind cabinet doors.

  • Hooks

Children are more likely to hang their coats and backpacks on a hook rather than inside a closet on hangers.

  • A Sitting Area

Having a place to sit makes it easier to get your shoes on and off. Consider installing a bench with a flip-up seat for extra storage.

  • Designated Spaces for Each Family Member

Assigning each person their own cubby, shelf, or basket will make it easier for them to find their coat and shoes as they are rushing to get out the door in the morning. Consider adding one for the family pet to hold their toys, keep their leash handy, and store a towel to wipe off wet or muddy paws.

  • Room To Expand

As your kids grow, you’ll need additional space for bigger shoes and more sports equipment. Hooks may need to be moved higher for ease of use and to accommodate larger jackets.

  • Plenty Of Light

Since the area may be small and possibly windowless, you’ll want to use a combination of track lighting and spotlights to make sure it’s well lit.

  • The Right Flooring

You need a surface that’s durable and easy to clean, like tile or wood. Consider adding a washable rug, like a bathmat, and maybe even a mat outside the door to catch some of the dirt before you enter the mudroom.

  • A Fan or Heater

To help provide a little relief from the heat or cold outside.

A mudroom can be created in the smallest of spaces. All you really need is a wall near the back or side entrance to your house.

If there’s a door leading from the garage into the house, the space next to it could be turned into a mudroom. Laundry rooms can also be reconfigured to include mudroom features. A hallway or staircase landing, or even the front hall closet, can be turned into a mudroom.

The key is designing it to make the best use of your available space, no matter how small. If you only have a narrow corner, be sure to make use of all vertical space, installing cabinets or shelves that reach toward the ceiling. If you only have one wall, shallow shelves that can store shoes and small baskets may be the way to go.
